Sugamo Nakasendo Chrysanthemum Festival
The Sugamo area was a big supplier of plants in the Edo era. Many people in the horticultural trade lived there and the area was well regarded by Edo residents as a gardening center. Growing ornamental chrysanthemums became popular among horticulturalists as a way of competing to show off their skills, and because chrysanthemums identified with Sugamo were highly prized at the time, many Edo residents visited this area, which was said to be so thriving that it was featured in tile block and woodblock prints.

Begun in 1993 to show what a wonderful place Sugamo is through the area's culture and history and to offer a sense of its charm, the Sugamo Nakasendo chrysanthemum festival draws 50,000 visitors each year.

Why not take this opportunity to spend an enjoyable day in Sugamo?
